| Auto-Insert
Notification was a great idea for Windows but sometimes it can be annoying if you are
putting in your Office CD to get some clip-art and the install screen comes up.
Other times it can just plain cause you problems, especially if you have power management
installed and the auto-insert prevents your computer from going to sleep. This is when you would like to
turn off this nifty feature, but how do you do this? Easy, say's the Bees!!
To disable both the
automatic running of CD-ROMs and the automatic playing of audio CDs, follow these steps:
- In Control Panel,
double-click System.
- Click the Device Manager
tab.
- Double-click the CD-ROM
branch, and then double-click the CD-ROM driver entry.
- On the Settings tab, click
the "Auto Insert Notification" check box to clear it.
- Click OK or Close until
you return to Control Panel. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
To disable only the
automatic playing of audio CDs, follow these steps:
- Double-click My Computer.
- On the View menu, click
Options.
- On the File Types tab,
click AudioCD in the Registered File Types box, and then click Edit.
- In the Actions box, click
Play, and then click Set Default.
- Click Close, and then
click Close.
If you want to
temporarily enable autoplay to install a program or play a CD, double-click My Computer,
right-click the CD-ROM drive icon, and select autoplay. This will enable it for that
CD only.
